The right to freedom of association: Preliminary observations to the UN Human Rights Committee to inform the development of General Comment no. 38
Amnesty International welcomes the opportunity to provide the following preliminary observations on the right to freedom of association, following the call for input by the UN Human Rights Committee (the Committee) to inform the development of General Comment No. 38 on Article 22 (right to freedom of association) of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. This submission focuses on a number of general considerations and challenges in relation to the effective protection of this right and the meaningful enjoyment of associational life, building on the organization’s human rights work and what we learn from the individuals, groups and associations that the organization supports and collaborates with – primarily, human rights non-governmental organizations.
