Nicaragua: Where are they?: Enforced disappearance as a strategy of repression

Since 28 May 2021, the government of Daniel Ortega has pursued a new phase of its repressive strategy. Characteristic elements of this period include the arrest of a new group of people identified as opponents of the government. Following rigorous analysis of the available information, Amnesty International has concluded that the concealment of the whereabouts of 10 detainees constitutes enforced disappearance from the perspective of Nicaragua’s international human rights obligations.
