Belarus: In latest report, UN experts express great concern about violations committed by State authorities to repress dissent

In the present report, the Group of Independent Experts deepened its investigations into the patterns of violations committed by the State authorities to repress dissent both in Belarus and abroad.

“It finds that the Belarusian authorities continued to arbitrarily arrest and detain individuals for their actual or perceived opposition to the Government and then to subject them to inhuman conditions of detention, ill-treatment and torture.”

“The Group has also documented a pattern of transnational repression targeting Belarusians living in exile, notes a pervasive culture of impunity and makes recommendations to Belarus and the international community to ensure respect for, and the protection and fulfilment of, the fundamental human rights of the Belarusian people.”
