National Coordinator Student Groups (NCSG)
Amnesty International The Netherlands is looking for four new National Coordinators of Student Groups. Do you want to help our student groups make the most of their work? Are you a great communicator and team player? Do you have experience within Amnesty student groups or the wider youth community? Apply for this position!
We are looking for a National Coordinator Student Groups (NCSG) 2026/2027 (Volunteer Position), for 6-8 hours per week, from May 2026 until June 2027.
Where will you work?
Amnesty International the Netherlands (AINL) has twelve active Amnesty Student Groups that participate in actions, organise debates and movie nights, host social activities, engage in Amnesty’s fundraising mission and do much more. Each academic year, our NCSGs provide guidance to student group boards.
Amnesty’s student groups are part of a wider youth community network, that consists of Amnesty’s national youth council and wider community members. Growing our youth community and taking action with youth are important to strengthen our human rights movement. As an NCSG, you will be contributing to these goals.
As a National Coordinator of Student Groups (NCSG), you will be assigned to three student groups to help them succeed in their human rights work by coaching them and helping them throughout the year. Additionally, you will engage with project work on one of two projects: Project Amnesty Youth Community & Events, or Project Student Groups in Action. You will collaborate closely with HQ and your fellow NCSGs in your roles.
What will you be doing?
In this role your main tasks will be:
- Coach, advice and inspire your three assigned student groups.
- Build a relationship with your student group board members individually and work on their personal development.
- Co-organize and attend important student group events such as the board and committee member day, or events that come out of one of the projects (see below).
- Coach and help your fellow NCSGs in their role, working as a team.
- Together with HQ, assist in ensuring the transition of the old and new boards, and smooth onboarding of new boards; as well as adherence to Amnesty student group guidelines and policies throughout the year.
Project tasks
As an NCSG you will work on one out of the two projects below: youth community and events; and action. See the brief description of each project and NCSG tasks. The projects will be divided once the four NCSGs have been selected.
Project Youth Community & Events
- You strengthen the community of active youth within Amnesty, and ties between student groups and other youth entities. You work closely with the Amnesty youth council.
- You organise at least three events: the student group board and committee day, and two other youth community events in cooperation with the youth council (e.g. justice dinners & youth community day).
- You come up with new strategies and tactics to turn different Amnesty youth entities around the country into a community.
Project Student Groups in Action
- You engage student groups in human rights action, by developing actions that can be taken on campus or beyond that fit within the Amnesty strategy.
- You develop two action ideas for student groups, in which:
- You collaborate with HQ on translating existing campaigns to student group actions.
- You collect information on what student groups are doing around the country. You find ways to highlight and communicate actions and events as inspiration for other student groups.
- You help organise the annual Write for Rights for Student Groups campaign, by collaborating with HQ on the creation of campaign outputs, preparing student groups for successful participation, and evaluating Write for Rights for Student Groups.
- Together with HQ, you provide relevant human rights education regarding human rights topics that Amnesty works on, and that are specifically interesting for students.
Who are we looking for?
- You are available 6 to 8 hours a week from May 2026 until June 2027 to fulfil this role, in which;
- You host monthly meetings with your three student groups, and visit them in person at important moments, such as their biggest events.
- You attend bi-weekly meetings as a NCSG group, alternating between in-person and online meetings.
- You are excited to work in a team on one of the two projects. You are willing to occasionally travel to our office in Amsterdam to work on these projects in person.
- You are available for an NCSG transition meeting on May 30.
- You will be residing in the Netherlands for the full academic year 2026/2027.
- You are fluent in English in speech and writing.
- You have experience within an Amnesty student group or the wider youth community. You understand the workings of Amnesty International the Netherlands and their student groups.
- You are someone who easily approaches people and can build relationships.
- You are an excellent team player, networker, and communicator.
- You believe in Amnesty’s mission and feel the importance of movement building and human rights action.
- You identify with the values we have agreed upon: reliability, equality, respect, and dedication.
What do we offer?
- Volunteer contract from May 2026 until July 2027.
- A great working environment, with plenty of opportunities to develop yourself. You will receive guidance, training, and coaching on all aspects of your role. We listen to your development goals and needs and adjust training and coaching accordingly.
- Experience and network in human rights work and activism.
- Insight into the workings of an NGO.
- Reimbursement of all costs made in relation to this role.
