UN: Human Rights Council adopts a strong resolution on safety of journalists
The UN Human Rights Council adopts a strong resolution (A/HRC/59/L.20) on The safety of journalists, without a vote.
Expressing deep concern about the risks and dangers journalists are facing world wide and highlighting the specific risks for women journalists, the Council calls upon States and all other relevant stakeholders to follow up on the recommendations and outcomes from the tenth anniversary of the United Nations Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity; the Council further requests the High Commissioner for Human Rights to conduct a comprehensive study to assess the effectiveness of national frameworks for the protection of journalists, identify lessons learned, and make recommendations on how they should be adapted to respond to new threats.
