DRAFT Study on human and peoples’ rights and artificial intelligence, robotics, and other new and emerging technologies in Africa

In line with its mandate to promote and protect the rights guaranteed under the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights (African Charter), and in recognition of the potential human rights implications of AI and other new and emerging technologies, the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, called for inputs on the Draft Study on Human and Peoples’ Rights and AI, Robotics, and Other New and Emerging Technologies in Africa.

‘These technologies, while offering benefits for development, also pose serious risks to privacy, equality, economic and social rights, and freedom of expression, particularly in the absence of meaningful human control, inclusive governance frameworks, and ethical safeguards,’ states African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights in the announcement.
